2012 Upton Vineyard Sangiovese
Tasting notes:
This extremely small lot of Sangiovese (39 cases made) is our first Sangiovese and harkens back to the first wine Serena and Alan collaborated on which was a 2008, a Sangiovese from Central Coast.
John and Jan Upton have a certified organic vineyard in the Redwood Valley that yields a small but beautiful crop of Sangiovese every year. This 2012 Upton Sangiovese is the yang to the Pinot's yin in our portfolio. Bursting with ripe cherry and stone fruit aromas it brings to mind a warm cherry pie served with fresh peaches and nectarine. On the palate there is tobacco, dried Black Mission fig, leather and licorice. There was no new oak used in aging but the thick Sangio skins provide plenty of tannins for a firm drying finish, just as the best Chianti Classico's deliver.
