2014 Greenwood Ridge Riesling

The 2014 Riesling came in with something like 2-3% of the fruit affected by botrytis. AKA "Noble Rot" I spent a lot of time freaking out about this but I have come to understand Botrytis is almost always part of the Riesling game and in certain situations help create an amazing wine. This minor amount of botrytis seems to have lead to a wine that has a different set of primary aromatics. All the aromas are slightly subdued but dry hay and lychee are right up front with a touch of peach in the background. I was expecting an edgy palate but this wine has softened and is soft on the palate like orange sherbet. Not sweet but citrus-y and creamy. The fairly complex finish swings between silky and sparky.
